Even in a packed blockbuster season, Dunkirk is the single most exciting film coming to cinemas this summer. Not only is it Christopher Nolan's next project - which in itself is worth about £300m at the box office - it also promises to deliver a stunning, unprecedented look at one of the most important dates in military history.
With Nolan's methodical filming style and his steadfast commitment to authenticity (both emotional and in details), Dunkirk was already expected to deliver an incredible cinematic experience, and the flashes of footage we'd already seen confirmed the hype was well-earned. Now, we've finally got a full trailer for the war epic, and those expectations have just been fed again.
Written and directed by Nolan, the film focuses on the heroic rescue of Allied soldiers stranded on the French coast during one of the heaviest battles of the second world war. It's essentially a disaster movie set within the war genre, with the added kicker of huge military attack sequences (and some astonishing looking aerial battles) on top of that.
And inevitably, the cast is excellent with Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy and One Direction's Harry Styles all in key roles. You have to suspect - looking at this trailer - that an unnamed cast would be enough to sell this spectacle.
