Ed Harris: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

1. Tom Wheeler - Milk Money

Tom Wheeler

So, there is this delightful little movie where a young boy travels to a city, runs into a hooker played by Melanie Griffiths, pays her to strip for him and takes her home to his family, straight-comedic gold right there I say. Where to begin with this colossal failure? Now normally I would say that Harris is miscast in a broad comedic, or an attempt at broad-comedy, movie, but then everyone is miscast in this dead-on-arrival mess. Harris does so many things well as a performer, but straight comedy is definitely not one of them. If there were some better edge to the material something might have been saved from this, as it stands there is just nothing Harris or the rest of the cast could do. Milk Money is just a bizarre misfire on all levels, with Harris painfully trying to coax laughs out of it. Now, it€™s not like he doesn't have experience resuscitating the dead, but all things being equal, Mastrantonio had much better odds. So there we have it five roles that define and another five that are forgettable in the lengthy career of Mr. Intensity himself. I hope you look forward, as I do, to any movie he is starring in. Make no mistake the man can misfire, but when he has the proper material and interest€ watch out. You€™re witnessing acting at a level we should all be privileged to see.

Writer and film-nut I'm willing to have perfectly reasonable discussions about the movies I love... on the internet... perhaps I asked too much. Read and comment on my personal blog too at cityuponahillmedia.com/blog
