Ever since the first solid details of Terminator: Dark Fate came out, many franchise fans felt that there was something lacking. That lacking? Why, that was the presence of Edward Furlong.

Given how Dark Fate is to ignore every Terminator picture since Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and the fact that the film is bringing Linda Hamilton back into the fold as Sarah Connor, it felt a little odd to be going this route yet not having Furlong’s John Connor be a part of this sixth Terminator offering.

For those of you who felt a little disappointing at the lack of Furlong, fear not, for James Cameron has now revealed that, yes, Ed Furlong will indeed be back to play the man destined to save humanity from the rise of the machines.

Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con, Cameron – director of the first two Terminator movies and producer on Dark Fate – confirmed that Furlong will be returning to the role he played 27 years ago.

Of course, for those who kept up with the career of Edward Furlong, there were some great post-T2 turns in the likes of American History X, Detroit Rock City, !*$%, Animal Factory, and even The Crow: Wicked Prayer (yeah, we said it!).

Sadly, it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows for Furlong, and he has spent years battling drug and alcohol addiction issues, which have included stints in both prison and in rehab.

Only last year, there were reports of Ed Furlong's newfound sobriety and how he was working out daily in the hope of somehow being involved in this latest Terminator installment. And now, the actor and his fans have seemingly got their way.

Terminator: Dark Fate is booked in for an October 25th release as the franchise looks to eradicate the memories of Rise of the Machines, Salvation, and Genisys.
