Some fictional characters seem to leave an indelible mark on popular culture, ultimately becoming more identifiable than there creators. Needless to say, these are the characters whose stories are adapted time and again, in successive films and TV shows. Sherlock Holmes is the most notable of these and was possibly the first to be brought into life. From countless movies to modern-day TV versions, the genius character has grown from his Victorian England roots to a newfangled 21st century genius with an ever-growing fan base.

With Netflix bringing Enola Holmes to life, there is a new addition to the Sherlock family and a new detective in town. Based on the original 2006 book by Nancy Springer, the story adds Enola, Sherlock's sister, to the list of genius detectives. Set in the backdrop of Victorian England, Enola's story manages to develop a curious sense in which it feels like a successful modernisation.
