Eternals: 24 WTF Moments
13. Thanos Did Nothing Wrong
Perhaps the single most shocking revelation in Eternals is how boldly it re-contextualises Thanos' (Josh Brolin) actions in the Infinity Saga - namely, wiping out half of all life in the universe with the snap.
In one of the film's many exposition dumps, it's revealed that Earth contains a Celestial seed, and that a massive amount of human energy is required to birth the Celestial - an event known as "the Emergence."
With the human population now reaching the required number and outputting the necessary level of energy, the Celestial Tiamut will soon be able to emerge from Earth, in turn destroying it and killing everyone on the planet.
This is a fascinating revelation in the context of Infinity War in particular, that Thanos' decision to halve life on Earth effectively delayed the Emergence, as Ajak herself states.
Obviously this isn't to excuse what Thanos did, but it certainly gives some fuel to the #ThanosDidNothingWrong crowd, that he actually bought humanity some extra time before a world-annihilating threat arrived.
