Ethan Hawke: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

2. Edward Dalton - Daybreakers

Daybreakers In visually striking vampire film Daybreakers, Hawke plays Edward Dalton, a vampiric hematologist working for the biggest supplier of blood in the United States. My biggest complaint about the actor's work in this film is simply that it's not very interesting; he seems to sleepwalk his way through much of it, though I suppose it does sort of suit the material, given that his character, like all others, is suffering through a blood drought and is therefore feeling pretty lethargic. Though some of his banter with Willem Dafoe's vampire hunter raises the odd chuckle, on the whole Hawke is moved to the background by those around him; Sam Neil, for instance, is deliciously amusing as the head of the company Hawke works for, yet Hawke plays his role curiously straight-faced, despite the inherently campy tone of the movie.
