Universal Pictures have optioned the rights to adapt the adventure novel
Everlost with
Pleasantville director
Gary Ross in line to direct. The author of the book
Neal Shusterman will also write the script. The book follows two teenager car passengers who are involved in a collision, sending them to a place known as Everlost. The place seems to exist in a different kind of reality, as young people from different historical periods populate the area, not all of them friendly. Alison Thomas, one of the producers of the project spoke to
Variety...
"We liked the characters, and the idea that it was an action adventure story that had no wizards or dragons, that wasn't driven by magic like so many of these films are,""This is an alternative universe, almost Peter Pan-ish, with its own set of rules and two strong lead characters trying to find their way back to their families." Everlost is the first book of what is hoped to become a series (no surprise their then). Actually I quite like the sound of this movie. There has been to many fantasy movies as of late involing magic and dragons (
Eragon anyone?) which just like they are trying to be the next "
Lord of the Rings". It's also a more ambitious project for director Gary Ross, who has previously helmed rather small but succesful flicks with Pleasantville and
Seabiscuit . He is also working on an untitled historical epic and the movie drama
Vegas 55, so we may have to wait a while until we see Everlost hit our screens. source -
