People will have their opinions about the Ancient One being "whitewashed", but did Tilda Swinton give a phenomenal performance in the role or what?

Swinton is a career chameleon who slinks effortlessly into any far-flung part she plays, and she was note-perfect as the Doctor Strange's all-powerful mentor.

More impressive than anything is how well the movie sells not only her massive strength, but also her human frailty, as her memorable death scene actually feels like it has stakes, despite the fact she can probably be brought back with magical nonsense at some point in the future.

If the MCU was looking for its Yoda, it may have found the answer with Swinton's marvelous portrayal. As much as her demise makes thematic and narrative sense, it would be hard to get too mad if she did return at some point.
