Though this contemporary depiction of Zemo may differ significantly from the comics (he's not wearing the iconic purple hood for starters), he instantly shot near the top of the MCU's villains, as played so deliciously by the brilliant Daniel Bruhl.

With ambiguous motives that slowly unfurl themselves over the course of the movie, Zemo is all the more interesting because he's not a superpowered entity but merely a man, an extremely intelligent, cunning and driven man but a man all the same.

When the nature of his beef with the Avengers is revealed, it's extremely easy to relate to his actions, and of course, though he ends up imprisoned, he essentially wins by splitting The Avengers from within.

If Zemo came back for another go-around in the future (or even just a cameo), there would be few complaints.
