Every 2016 Comic Book Movie Ranked Worst To Best
7. Batman V Superman
Is it too easy to take pot-shots at Batman v Superman? Of course it is, but there is a very, very good reason for that. The film is almost a morality tale on restraint and knowing your characters: it is overblown, messy and incoherent in parts - and if you want evidence of why that's an absolutely spot-on assessment, go and watch the vastly superior Ultimate Edition cut.
The film is the product of too much Zack Snyder - a man who openly expressed his disdain for "normal" superhero movies when he made Watchmen - and no overarching creative control that could objectively look at his plans and trim them down. Or lighten them up. Or edit out the clunky bits in the script, or put back the erroneously excised bridging material.
Some of the characterisation is great - Ben Affleck's Bat is great (his Bruce Wayne is not), and Superman is still interesting despite the conscious attempt to unSuperman him - but the final product is too sloppy and too unpolished for them to shine as they should.
