Every 2020 Movie That Could Make A Billion Dollars

10. Jungle Cruise

Wonder Woman 1984 Gal Gadot
Disney

Making The Rock the star of your movie is generally a good idea. His last few efforts have ranged from $758 million (Hobbs & Shaw) to $304 million (Skyscraper) and $428 million (Rampage), while Jumanji shattered even the most optimistic of expectations when it came within a hair of joining the billion-dollar club ($962 million).

The actor's popularity bodes well for the upcoming Jungle Cruise, which is set for a late July launch. Based on the Disney ride of the same name, the film looks like a wild combination of Pirates of the Caribbean (a billion-dollar series) and Brendan Fraser's The Mummy, all wrapped up in a glitzy and expensive Disney package.

Good reviews will be essential for this one to even stand a chance at making the big bucks (it doesn't look original enough to draw in people who may be on the fence), but if everybody loves it, then it could end up cruising its way to that magic billion.

The best parallel to draw here is with the aforementioned Jumanji. It made a staggering amount of money with weak marketing and a terrible opening weekend gross, but Disney is one of the few studios around who could fix both those issues. Jungle Cruise also has no major competition in the family movie space until October, so it has a huge open road to keep on making cash.

If Disney sells it as a Rock-led Jumanji/Pirates-style adventure flick full of humour and action, then it could prove as successful as either one of those franchises.
