Every Batman Movie Opening Scene Ranked From Worst To Best

Batman Begins' opening sequence was, quite aptly, a major breath of fresh air following the more wacky and over-the-top openings of the Joel Schumacher movies.

Christopher Nolan's radical reboot kicks off with a young Bruce Wayne falling into a dry well and being attacked by bats, causing him to develop a fear of them.

We then cut to an older Bruce (Christian Bale) imprisoned in Bhutan, where the Earthy, gritty visuals and more stoic, tortured depiction of Bruce ensure this is a far more visceral, psychological take on Batman.

In 2005 it was tough to imagine a less Batman-like introduction to a Batman movie, which by slinging Bruce in prison, having him fight his fellow inmates, and finally get introduced to "Henri Ducard" (Liam Neeson), proved so, so damn refreshing.

The scene ends with Ducard inviting Bruce to join him for training, and we're off to the races.

Nolan's stripped back approach to building up Batman proved massively influential for cinematic origin stories in the years that followed, and with good reason.
