Every Batman Movie Ranked Worst To Best
1. The Dark Knight
You knew this was going to happen before you even started, admit it.
The Dark Knight might not be the purest Batman film ever made; it might not show the most understanding of the mythology of the character or his history and it's certainly not a real comic book movie, but it's still an incredible feat.
Even without Heath Ledger's confidence-drunk pricked nerve performance as The Joker, The Dark Knight is a towering achievement in story-telling, marrying the "normal" underworld crime of Gotham with its most flamboyant cartoon figures, turning Batman into more of a blunt object and then stripped him back to vulnerability in quite stunning fashion.
Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne is less interesting, actually, than he is in the book-ends of the trilogy, but his Batman is the perfect predator, being taught a stark lesson about the price of responsibility and power and almost losing control several times. It's still a mesmerising spiral, and it's made particularly enjoyable by Ledger's madcap performance and Aaron Eckhart's more understated brilliance.
