It never should have beaten The Social Network, but then we shouldn’t be surprised it did. The King’s Speech, about Colin Firth’s stuttering king and Geoffrey Rush’s speech therapist, is exactly the kind of predictable, uplifting drama the Academy always goes gaga for.
There’s no denying both Firth and Rush are on exceptional form, mixing Tom Hooper’s occasionally sweet drama with a level of wit and comfort it may have otherwise lacked, but it won't leave you eager for more.
