Every Best Picture Oscar Winner Ranked Worst To Best

55. Kramer Vs. Kramer (1979)

One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest
Columbia Pictures

In a just world, Kramer vs. Kramer wouldn't have been allowed to scoop Best Picture over Francis Ford Coppola's irrefutable masterpiece Apocalypse Now, but don't let that Oscar injustice colour your opinion too much.

Mainly through the power of its star cast - particularly first-time Oscar-winner Meryl Streep - Robert Benton's drama about divorce, family dynamics, and parenting rights feels both warm and smart. Even if it doesn't feel quite as timely today, its maturity and performances will still surprise you in the best way.
