Every Best Picture Oscar Winner Ranked Worst To Best
46. How Green Was My Valley (1941)
How Green Was My Valley may have been an undeserving winner, beating Citizen Kane (really) to the top prize, but that doesn't make its drama about a beaten down Welsh mining family any less affecting.
With grit and heartbreak, John Ford brings the film's big, tragic story to life with an epic sweep and enveloping cast - including a brilliant Donald Crisp - allowing every twist of its journey pack a massive, memorable punch. It's no Citizen Kane, and not even Ford's best, but it's a tough tear-jerker to forget all the same.
