4. Schindler's List (1993)
Schindler's List is another in that long line of great, important dramas that you're only likely to get through once, simply because it makes for such a harrowing viewing experience.
An adaptation of Thomas Keneally's 1982 novel Schindler's Ark, Steven Spielberg's magnum opus follows deceptive industrialist Oskar Schindler as he works tirelessly to save thousands of Jews from Nazi persecution during the Second World War.
Gorgeously shot by the great Janusz KamiĆski and superbly acted by Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, and Ben Kingsley, Spielberg's drama is haunting, horrific, and yet surprisingly uplifting. It makes sure not to shy away from the evil of humanity, but it finds hope in the real-life heroes it portrays.
