8. Adventures In Babysitting

Splash Butt Censorship
Touchstone Pictures

Chris Columbus’ debut feature has two notable changes since its original cinematic release. Most UK VHS and DVD releases have remained unedited but a family friendly version has long been used for TV broadcast. That’s the version that’s made it to Disney+.

One of the comedy’s more quotable lines, “Don’t f**k with the babysitter,” has been replaced with the milder but somehow less impactful, “don’t fool with the babysitter.”

Elsewhere, the word “homo” has been replaced with “weirdo.” Casual, derogatory homophobic language just doesn’t fly in family films in 2020. This change is one few would argue with.
