Every Francis Ford Coppola Movie Ranked Worst To Best
2. The Godfather Part II (1974)
Everyone has their opinions about which of the first two Godfather films are the best, and for this list, The Godfather Part II has to take the crown from its predecessor. Bringing in Mario Puzo to help write the screenplay once more, Coppola managed to make not only one of the greatest sequels ever committed to film, but one of the best films ever made.
Part II carries with it everything that made The Godfather so great, from the at once slow-burning and intensely thrilling narrative, the expertly crafted character development and the phenomenal twists that are fired off with relentless energy.
But it wins out simply because of its added daring. The duel storyline - one following Michael's attempts to keep his family from falling apart, the other a flashback to the origin story of a young Vito Corleone (Robert De Niro) - contrast one another brilliantly in their assessments of greed and power, and just like The Godfather the performances are to die for.
Pacino has never been better, De Niro threatens to steal the show, and Talia Shire, Diane Keaton, John Cazale and Robert Duvall are unmatched. It's tense, moving, and simply the best of the franchise.
