Every George A Romero Movie Ranked Worst To Best

7. The Crazies

Released in 1973, The Crazies is your typical story about a biological plague that hits a Pennsylvania town. It plays on the same fears as Night Of The Living Dead and conjures up a fair deal of claustrophobia and suspense, though ultimately it’s not in the same league.

If you watch the movie (and you should) then don’t miss the opening scene: atmospherically shot and snappily edited, it’s a creepy little sequence where a young boy’s attempted practical joke is overtaken by a more sinister reality. Outside of Romero’s Living Dead films, it’s one of his most memorable scenes.

The Crazies was remade (very well) in 2010 with a bigger budget and name actors. If you’re tired of watered down horror movies then be aware that this version cranks everything up to eleven with pitchforks and power tools used as weapons. It has a shot at being the best remake of a Romero movie.
