Every Guillermo Del Toro Movie Ranked Worst To Best

4. Pinocchio (2022)

Pans Labyrinth
Netflix

The latest addition to Guillermo del Toro's filmography, Pinocchio (co-directed with Mark Gustafson for Netflix) is a stop motion fantasy-drama that takes a familiar tale and manages to make something wonderfully new and transformative, as only del Toro could.

With an endearing cast of actors led by Ewan McGregor, David Bradley, Ron Perlman and lovable newcomer Gregory Mann, del Toro's Pinocchio is first and foremost a tragedy, following a mourning carpenter who is given another chance at joy, which he must seize before more loss envelopes him.

Gorgeously animated, Pinocchio's themes of love, mortality and finding meaning in life are as devastating as they are hopeful, and the story -- complete with mythical creatures, wartime horrors and heaps of well-timed comedy -- makes it one of del Toro's most enduring and personal creations. It'll stay with you forever.
