5. Halloween 4: The Return Of Michael Myers

Without any sense of hyperbole, upon a first watch, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers has one of the most jaw-dropping, game-changing final scenes in horror history. And even more surprising, it doesn't even directly involve Michael himself.

Not only did Halloween 4 bring Michael back from his Halloween III absence, but the film also introduced us to the Shape's niece - as in the daughter of Laurie Strode - Jamie Lloyd. After a loose-lipped ambulance worker makes mention of Michael having a niece, Myers awakens from a ten-year coma to head to Haddonfield and track down Jamie; all with the ever-erratic Sam Loomis in tow.

The film itself is solid if not spectacular, with Ellie Cornell particularly impressing as Jamie's foster-sister Rachel, but it's those closing moments where Halloween 4 leaves you rocked to your core. With Michael having been dispatched down a mine shaft after being targeted by a local mob, the final moments reveal Jamie - adorned in a clown outfit similar to young Michael at the start of the first film - stabbing her foster-mother with a pair of scissors, as Dr. Loomis screams on in terror.
