Every James Bond Finale Ranked
21. Moonraker - Drax's Space Station
Like most Bond finales in the pre-Craig films, Moonraker's climax takes the form of a big battle - in this case, Bond, main Bond Girl Holly Goodhead (Lois Chiles) and a force of marines try to destroy main villain Hugo Drax's (Michael Lonsdale) space station... and the marines are all armed with laser guns. Right.
Despite the excellent visuals, Moonraker's space station climax is just horrendous. It's all far, far too much and it's too ridiculous to take seriously, while the choreography and pacing of the battle fatally fail to generate a hint of excitement, thus making what is a beyond-ridiculous finale a very boring one too.
And as for Jaws (Richard Kiel), that utterly legendary Bond villain, falling in love and being turned into a goofy joke... you know what, let's not even go there.
Nonetheless, Drax's death scene is good and the following action scene - in which Bond and main Bond Girl Holly Goodhead use a space shuttle to destroy three satellites carrying Drax's virus - is tense and well-done, so this ending isn't a total loss.
