Every James Bond Movie Pre-Credits Scene Ranked Worst To Best

15. Tomorrow Never Dies - Bond Prevents A Nuclear Catastrophe

James Bond Goldeneye Opening
MGM

The pre-credits to Tomorrow Never Dies, which doesn't have a connection to the rest of the story, does have an excellent set-up. The military launches a missile strike on an illegal arms market but by the time Bond (Pierce Brosnan) alerts them to there being nukes in the market, it's too late to stop the missiles. Therefore, Bond must break in and fly the jet out of range.

So yes, great idea for a pre-credits but this opening doesn't get all the thrills out of this idea that it could've done and it's all a little forgettable, albeit still reasonably fun. In fairness, the latter part of the sequence - in which Bond takes out an enemy jet - is very good and also features one of his best post-kill quips ("Backseat driver!").

This opening is alright overall, but it's nowhere near as good as the fantastic openings for the other three Brosnan films.
