Every James Bond Villain Ranked Worst To Best

1. Alec Trevelyan - Goldeneye

Alec Trevelyan (a rarely-better Sean Bean), a traitorous MI6 agent and Bond's former friend, is arguably the GOAT when it comes to Bond villains.

Both brilliantly charismatic and utterly dread-inducing every moment he's on-screen, Trevelyan is another pitch-perfect mixture of ludicrous entertainment and ferocious evil that makes him a character that will captivate and terrify you in equal measure. In other words, he's a masterful example of the Bond villain formula, but he goes even further than characters like Goldfinger and Blofeld, since he's arguably the best-written Bond villain ever.

Trevelyan fakes his death and becomes the head of a Russian crime syndicate. He intends to use a weaponized satellite to destroy the economy of the UK, thus taking revenge on MI6 for causing his parents' (who were Cossacks) death by selling them out to the Soviets.

As a dark flipside of Bond born out of MI6's dubious foreign policy, Trevelyan represents Bond's worst nightmare come to life: a suggestion that the institution Bond has given his entire life to is in fact a force of chaos and corruption. As such, there aren't many villains who have challenged and triggered 007 more and Bond has rarely looked more relieved to have killed a nemesis than when he finally killed Trevelyan.

Alec might've been evil, but it was still sad to see such an amazing character go. Still, at least he got possibly the best Bond villain death scene ever. The greatest Bond villain of all time definitely deserved that.
