Every Kevin Smith Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
2. Zack And Miri Make A Porno (2008)
Considering where he came from and everything that Clerks was built on, Zack And Miri (which was ridiculously censored of its final three titular words by ruddy prudes) seems like a strange departure for Smith. But actually, it's made on the same principles as Clerks, and there's definitely something of Clerks' filming process that went into it.
For the reason of that personal spirit, and because of the great script (some of Smith's best work by far), Zack And Miri is Smith's best film since his first. It is funny and charming in a broken sort of way (a great analogy for both Kevin Smith and Seth Rogen, actually), but not in a bad way at all. It's idiosyncratic and quirky, but completely likeable and it deserved a far better reaction when it was initially released.
As it is, the film was a moderate critical success, but tanked at the box office: go back to it now and it has aged particularly well.
