Every Live-Action Superman Movie & TV Show Ranked
2. Smallville
The main benefit of portraying a character in a TV show versus
a film is the amount of time you get to spend with the character. This is very
true with the show Smallville. Smallville ran from 2001 to 2011 and chronicled
the early years of Clark Kent before he became Superman.
The show started off very much as a teen drama, however around the second and third seasons we saw a lot more elements from the comic book creep into the show. Kryptonian enemies, episodes set on Krypton and villains such as Doomsday and Brainiac all made their mark on the show, with some terrific fights and battles.
However, the real highlight of the show is the relationship between Clark Kent and Lex Luthor. Michael Rosenbaum remains the best live action portrayal of Lex Luthor that we have seen thus far. He manages to straddle the line between evil maniacal genius and the warm inviting best friend.
This relationship works very well with Tom Welling’s Clark, who is both naïve yet optimistic in relation to his beliefs. This ultimately makes for a great dynamic between the two and raises the show into one of the best comic book series ever put to screen.
