Every M. Night Shyamalan Plot Twist Ranked From Worst To Best
6. Split - It's An Unbreakable Sequel
Plot: A man with split personalities kidnaps three teenage girls.
Split's twist-ending won't have meant anything to many viewers; those who hadn't seen Unbreakable would've just been confused. But for Unbreakable's many fans, who'd always hoped for a sequel to finally come along, it was undeniably joyous when David Dunn (Bruce Willis) suddenly appeared at the end.
And besides, even for viewers who missed the significance of Willis' cameo, it must have been nice to not have a twist which completely up-ended the whole film, which is what happened with Signs, The Village and The Happening.
Split itself isn't a great film thanks to its distasteful representation of mental illness and awful pacing (though it's still one of Shyamalan's better films thanks to the brilliance of the acting and direction), but this twist really worked and remains one of the most delightful, not to mention unexpected, bits of fan service in any recent movie.
