Every Main James Bond Villain Ranked Worst To Best

10. Hugo Drax (Moonraker, 1979)

Disarmingly calm yet an absolute madman, Hugo Drax is essentially a droller, deadpan version of Stromberg. Unlike his predecessor, his recruitment of the relentless Jaws is a smart move that doesn’t detract from his own presence. His fiendish plan to commit global genocide and repopulate the Earth with hand-picked supermen must rank as the most ambitious, most evil, and most insane in all of Bond.

Drax is best known for arguably the best, most quotable lines among Bond villains. He’s perhaps the single best thing about one of the campiest, silliest Bond films. The only mark against him is a lack of true iconic moments of villainy compared to the mighty foes I’ve ranked ahead of him, but he cracks the top 10 for his sheer entertainment factor.

Best Moment: “At least I’ll have the pleasure of putting you out of my misery.” Drax maintains his sardonic humour to the bitter end, seconds before being blown into the cold nothingness of space.

Worst Moment: Drax loses his icy cool only for a moment, throwing a brief tantrum as he cries to Jaws “you obey ME! EXPEL THEM!!” This from the mind that gave us “you appear with the tedious inevitability of an unloved season”?

Chest thumping James Bond and Haruki Murakami fanatic living in China. Once had a fever dream about riding a rowboat with Davos Seaworth. He hasn't updated this section since Game of Thrones was cool, and boy does it show.
