Every Main James Bond Villain Ranked Worst To Best
19. Ernst Stavro Blofeld (Spectre, 2015)
The long-awaited return of Ernst Stavro Blofeld in the Daniel Craig era now played by Oscar winning thespian Christoph Waltz was supposed to be a thing of beauty. Instead, Spectre ended with Blofeld scarred and defeated after his helicopter was brought down by a small pistol; a fitting microcosm of just how underwhelming the latest incarnation of the character turned out to be.
By and large, the writing of Spectre simply made Blofeld look far too ineffectual, and the reveal of the SPECTRE head as the secret mastermind behind the events of all of Craig’s previous films felt like an unwelcome retcon.
To cap it off, the twist that Blofeld is Bond’s previously assumed dead foster-brother is misguided at best, absolutely insane at worst.
Best Moment: Bond’s first encounter with the elusive Blofeld comes after infiltrating a Rome-held SPECTRE meeting. After demonstrating the fearsome prowess and influence of the mysterious organisation, Blofeld’s face turns eerily out of the shadows to gaze directly at Bond. “Hello James.” One of the best moments of the film.
Worst Moment: His attempt to lobotomise Bond and strategically remove his memories simply failed. The scene tried to harken back to Bond’s brutal torture at the hands of Le Chiffre, but much like the way the story tried to tie all of Craig’s prior villains to Blofeld and SPECTRE, it just didn’t work.
