Every Major Cinematic Universe Ranked From Worst To Best

3. Star Wars

Star Wars Shared Universe
Lucasfilm

Without a hint of hyperbole, no movie series in history can come anywhere close to matching the impact that Star Wars has had on popular culture. Even when the franchise has been absent from our screens for decades, it lost none of its popularity.

Now back in a big way following Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm, audiences are going to be getting a new movie set in a galaxy far far away on an annual basis for the foreseeable future, a move that both increases the very real risk of franchise fatigue and also opens up virtually unlimited possibilities to expand and develop the already-rich mythology of Star Wars.

The main 'Skywalker Saga' seems to be nearing its conclusion as the ninth installment enters production, but there are still plenty of stories to tell. Rogue One took a throwaway line from A New Hope's opening crawl and crafted a war movie that narratively runs parallel to the original trilogy, while Solo looks to (somewhat unecessarily) create a detailed origin story to everyone's favorite scruffy-looking nerf herder and his associates.

Rian Johnson, he of the incredibly divisive Last Jedi, is also signed on to develop another standalone trilogy with little connection to the main episodes. Make no mistake, for better or worse the Star Wars universe is about to get much, much bigger.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
