Every Major MCU Movie Twist Ranked Worst To Best
8. Spider-Man, Far From Home - Quentin Beck Was An Actor
It all seemed a bit too clean cut. Mysterio as a supposed good guy was fishy from the start, but the twist audiences eventually got was probably not the one they were expecting. In all fairness, that's kind of the point of a twist anyway.
Turns out Quentin Beck was not a heroic interloper but a disgruntled ex-employee of Tony Stark, with a talent for theatrics. Fans were also drooling over a possible intro to the multiverse in the MCU, so the whole 616 backstory had everyone effortlessly fooled. As an exercise in misdirection, it worked perfectly, and it also had that nugget of fan service which never fails to raise a smile.
Trouble is, we had already seen a 'he was an actor all along' work once already with the Mandarin in Iron Man 3. A lot of the context and transitions were different in the two films, so it still worked as a fairly fresh play. Even so, it would be beneficial for the MCU to promise never to work this angle again, as third time around, it may test the audiences' patience beyond repair.
