Every Martin Scorsese Movie Ranked Worst To Best
17. Casino (1996)
Casino has always been compared to Goodfellas, Scorsese's previous crime-drama starring Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci as ruthless, complicated men whose lives are destroyed by the mob, but it's far too good to be labelled a Goodfellas rehash.
The story of a fixer (De Niro) who's asked to take control of a Las Vegas casino run by the local mafia, Scorsese's film is bleak and delightfully indulgent, but it's such a finely tuned portrayal of torment, greed and inevitable downfalls that its worse habits - Pesci's overblown supporting tune, its gnarly violence - are painless to forget.
Some of it is dialled up a notch or two high, but Casino's dark heart and pulverising assessments of lawful and moral corruption, as well as a riotous Sharon Stone as a hustler matching Scorsese's intensity line-for-line, make it a compelling thrill ride worth strapping in for.
