Every Martin Scorsese Movie Ranked Worst To Best
13. After Hours (1985)
Never one to be held down, Scorsese decided to cut loose with After Hours, a hilarious, punk-flavoured dark comedy about one man (an exceptional Griffin Dunne) having the worst night of his life whilst trying to get home.
Made at a time when Scorsese felt boxed-in by his work, unable to bring upcoming film The Last Temptation of Christ to life as intended, After Hours has the filmmaker at his most whimsical and inventive, without ever sacrificing his moody portrayal of New York and its unpredictable nightlife - seediness, excitement, oddities and all.
With sharp metaphors and well-aged, comical discussions of sex, the 9-5 work cycle and masculine ego, After Hours is Scorsese throwing caution to the wind and letting off some steam, in the process producing one of his most unapologetically enjoyable films.
