Every Marvel Comic Book Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

29. The Wolverine

It might have been a vast improvement on Origins, but James Mangold's follow-up to that false start really isn't very entertaining, lacking most of the fun you'd want from this sort of material. Yes, it has a close relationship to an iconic Wolverine comic arc, but the spirit of the source isn't recaptured in the adaptation.

And sadly, Wolverine fighting a giant silver samurai isn't anywhere near as cool as it sounds.

What might have helped the film was a more organic use of Japan as the story setting, rather than just as a pretty backdrop, and there's nothing like the awareness of the character that Mangold would later adopt for Logan. The worst thing that can probably be said about The Wolverine is that it could have starred any hero in his place.
