Every Marvel Comic Book Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

13. Ant-Man

Ant Man Scott Lang
Marvel Studios

He will never be classed in the same breath as Robert Downey Jr, but Paul Rudd's casting as Scott Lang was just as perfect and just as important to the film. Remember, this was a project that had been in development for a long, long time and had infamously lost Edgar Wright as director over "creative differences".

For some, that was an indication that the film was going to be terrible: after all, Wright knows geek fandom and genre movies and he was surely going to make the perfect movie, right? It turns out that Rudd offered the perfect anchor for Marvel to hang some stability on, and focusing on him led to one of Marvel's most human, funniest releases.

Rudd is exactly the right sort of charismatic lead: he's likeable, disarmingly charming and an everyman the same way Chris Pratt was for Guardians Of The Galaxy. And he is so entertaining in the movie - alongside excellent turns by Michael Douglas and Evangeline Lily - that you can easily forgive that Corey Stoll isn't really that great a villain. The heist plot - and the comedy relief offered by Michael Pena - was also a diversion from typical MCU fare, and the difference was absolutely a boost.
