Every Matrix Fight Ranked Worst To Best

With The Matrix 4 right around the corner, which are the bouts to beat?

While Star Wars fans were obsessing about the release of The Phantom Menace in the summer of 1999, The Matrix came out of nowhere and blew its competition out of the water. It levelled up Keanu Reeves' career, created a brand-new franchise, and won over millions of sci-fi fans, not just for its philosophy, intricate story, and masterful shootouts, but also for its astounding martial art scenes.

At the time, fighting choreography had never been seen of this calibre in Western cinema. As the Wachowskis' masterpiece became a part of pop-culture, it wasn't long before action films attempted to duplicate The Matrix's lightning-speed kung fu. However, none of them came close.

With the masses desperate for more gravity-defying action, it wasn't long before sequels were greenlit. The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions may not have reached the standards of the original but no one can contest how incredible the fight sequences are.

But the big question is: which fight in this influential franchise is the best? With The Matrix 4 looming forward, now seems like an ideal time to look at every single brawl in The Matrix series.

13. Neo Vs Bane (The Matrix Revolutions)

As Neo and Trinity make their way to Machine City in The Matrix Revolutions, they discover Bane has stowed away on their vessel. As he attacks Trinity, Neo realises Bane is possessed by Agent Smith.

As Smith is about to blast Neo to death with a laser gun, Trinity turns off the lights, giving her partner a moment to dive out of the way. As he scuffles with the diabolical agent on the floor, Smith shoves an electric cable into Neo's face, incinerating his eyes. Even though he is seemingly blind, Neo's powers activate, allowing him to see and defeat this incarnation of Smith.

Because this battle doesn't take place in The Matrix, it lacks the high-flying martial arts we've come to expect. But that doesn't mean it's a bad idea. Forcing Neo to face his nemesis without the aid of his powers makes the stakes much higher.

Sadly, the fight is ruined since it takes place in flickering darkness so we can barely see what's happening. This style was probably done to make the fight more chaotic but it was a bad decision.
