Every Matrix Fight Ranked Worst To Best
12. Neo Vs Seraph (The Matrix Reloaded)
In The Matrix Reloaded, Neo is summoned by the Oracle to meet her at a tea house. When he arrives, Neo is met with a mysterious program called Seraph. He suddenly attacks Neo, initiating a martial arts fight. Since the pair seem evenly matched, most of the moves consists counters, misses, and blocks, and Neo only manages to land a single blow upon his attacker.
After a minute, Seraph suddenly stops the match, stating that he was merely testing Neo's mettle. He then calmly brings him to the Oracle without incident.
The actor portraying Seraph, Colin Chou, is an excellent fighter and this confrontation is excellently choreographed. But it's lacking in one department that every other fight in the franchise has: tension.
Since Neo doesn't get hit once, there is no sense that he is in danger so this battles comes across as gratuitous. At the time, we have no idea who Seraph is so this fight feels meaningless. The scene could've had more stakes if Neo looked like he was struggling to keep up with Seraph instead of deflecting all of his advances without effort.
