Saving Private Ryan is one of the greats of the war genre, perfectly capturing the horror, pain and anguish that came with the D-Day Landings and sporting some of the most devastating scenes in cinema.

His appearance teased throughout the movie, Damon works wonders to make Private Ryan an endearing presence, an innocent kid thrown into a warzone and out of his element.

It's a tough watch, but boy is it worth it.
