Every MCU Origin Story Ranked From Worst To Best
1. Black Panther
But the #1 spot has to go to the most singular, creative, and dramatically potent origin movie in the MCU.
Black Panther wasn't just a really, really great superhero movie - it was a cultural phenomenon, grossing more than $1.3 billion worldwide and winning three Oscars from seven nominations (including a nod for Best Picture).
Wakanda remains one of the MCU's most well-drawn locations, director Ryan Coogler persuasively immersing the audience in this majestic concealed nation and celebrating Black culture every step of the way.
Chadwick Boseman is of course outstanding as T'Challa - if, heartbreakingly, it's the only solo movie he ever got to appear in - as is the entire ensemble cast, particularly Michael B. Jordan, who makes Erik Killmonger one of the franchise's few truly complex and refined villains.
It's certainly guilty of devolving into a more typical Marvel CGI-fest in its third act, but Black Panther is also one of the few MCU movies with something important to say about both human history and modern civilisation, while making a landmark leap for blockbuster representation in the process.
