Every Michael Mann Movie Ranked Worst To Best
1. Heat (1995)
Initially billed as the official, long-awaited meet-up between Al Pacino and Robert De Niro on the big screen, Michael Mann's undisputed masterpiece Heat has enough riotous action sequences and memorable drama to back up its massive star power.
In the film, De Niro stars as career criminal Neil McCauley on track to score his biggest job yet, before he finds his work complicated by Pacino's world-weary and eccentric detective Vincent Hanna.
The two mega-stars are joined by Val Kilmer, Tom Sizemore, Amy Brenneman, Natalie Portman and Ashley Judd, all of whom provide some of the best work of their careers, whilst Mann holds nothing back with a series of action scenes that are still unrivalled in their intensity and scale to this day.
Heat is over-the-top, twisting, intimate and epic in equal measure, a modern action masterclass that stacks so much tension, character development and raging dialogue into its surprisingly breezy 170-minute runtime, that it simply has to be seen as Michael Mann's crowning achievement.
