11. Nixon - Richard Nixon

Now, this one is rather unique as Tom Hanks was actually signed on to play a version of President Richard Nixon on the big screen in Disney's The Passion of Richard Nixon. However, the project unfortunately didn't find its way to the big screen in the end.

But, when Oliver Stone was eventually tasked with bringing the 37th U.S. President's story to life, the legendary Platoon and Wall Street director was well aware of Hanks' previous attachment to the role and approached him about appearing in his 1995 project.

Hanks decided the role wasn't for him at that time and Anthony Hopkins was instead brought in to play the distinct figure in Stone's Nixon film. Despite the picture completely flopping at the box office, at the 1995 Academy Awards, Hopkins would land himself a Best Actor nomination for his turn. While Hanks was busy getting the ball rolling on one of the most successful animated franchises of all time in Pixar's Toy Story and blasting off into space in Ron Howard's Apollo 13.

Honestly, what a career this man has had!
