Every Pokemon Movie Ranked Worst To Best

3. Pokemon: The Movie 2000 - The Power Of One

The very first of Ash Ketchum's truly grand, save-the-world adventures comes in The Power of One - and it's absolutely vintage Pokemon big-screen stuff to revel in, an unabashedly over-the-top yarn that mostly manages to keep a surprising clarity on its protagonist's doubts and fears under his gung-ho impulsive brilliance.

Caught in a storm that drags him, Misty and - in his only major film appearance - Tracey Sketchit - to the heart of the Orange Islands, he finds himself tasked with playing the role of a hero in a local festival celebration, only to be thrust into a genuine battle for the soul of the world when a nefarious villain wrecks havoc on the global climate.

It's got all the big beats considered hallmarks now and a lot of them started with this film, which - though clearly no Pixar-level gem - holds up with a youthful exuberance all these years later that marks it out as an essential cut for fans.

Something of a culture vulture, Mr Steel can historically be found in three places; the local cinema, the local stadium or the local chip shop. He is an avowed fan of franchise films, amateur cricket and power-chords.
