Every Pokemon Movie Ranked Worst To Best
1. Detective Pikachu
Dare it be said that the lone live-action offering in the Pokemon cinematic catalogue may be its strongest to date? Detective Pikachu finally brought the games to life in more ways than one on the big screen last year - and though it had its share of detractors, it's hard to deny that it likely is the best of the bunch, in part because it is so wildly different to all that's come before it.
In following the exploits of Tim Goodman after he's forced to buddy up with the titular hat-wearing mouse sleuth to discover who killed his detective father, it not only allowed the series to riff on familiar tropes - Mewtwo Strikes Back proves a key influence - but indulge in new genres, skewering noir-lite material with a wink, while also tackling the issue of just what it means to not care for the Pokemon lifestyle in a world where they are omnipresent.
It's bold to claim it's better than the rest - but we think this Ash-free adventure may just top the lot. A sequel is reportedly in the works and we, for one, can't wait to return to Ryme City to follow the exploits of its over-caffeinated hero.
