5. Creed II

Creed II is in many ways a blended-up remake of the first four Rocky movies, and though it's certainly nowhere near as strong as the first Creed - in large part due to director Ryan Coogler's absence - it's still a thoroughly convincing sports movie thanks to the strong performances and poignant plot.

You know where it's going and most of what's going to happen, but Stallone and Michael B. Jordan's dramatic two-hander is totally delightful once again, while Stallone's script does a splendid job developing the Dragos as actual human beings.

There's nothing here to match the technical virtuosity of its predecessor, but by presenting audiences with two worthy fighters with compelling motivations for victory, Creed II is one of the more ambiguous and anguished movies in the series.
