Every Sequel To Best Picture Oscar Winners - Ranked

8. The Sting II

The Godfather 2 Al Pacino

Paul Newman and Robert Redford can claimed to have starred in one of the finest caper movies of the 1970s, George Roy Hill's The Sting, the quality of which was reflected in its seven Oscar wins and $159.6m in box office takings.

The fact it spawned a sequel wasn't especially surprising, but the follow-up's cast and crew list was. Few people involved in the award-winning original return for The Sting II, which cast Jackie Gleason and Oliver Reed in the lead roles.

Rather than a sequel, this was a lazy retread of the original that did a poor job of copying it from start to finish. The film holds a 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and that pretty much sums up how uncalled for this movie really was.

Despite its many shortcomings, The Sting II did actually earn an Oscar nomination of its own for Lalo Schifrin’s original music, but lost out to Michel Legrand, Alan Bergman and Marilyn Bergman's score for Barbra Streisand's Yentl.
