Every Spider-Man Movie Villain Ranked From Worst To Best
1. Doctor Octopus (Spider-Man 2)
Before premature reboots and shared comic book universes, there was Spider-Man 2, a movie which remains one of the greatest superhero films ever made.
There are many factors behind its success and high on the list is its superlative antagonist - Alfred Molina's Doctor Octopus.
Doc Ock was the prefect villain, convincing as a well-meaning mentor, tragic in his downfall and a physical and intellectual match for Spider-Man post-transformation.
A lot of work went into bringing Otto Octavius's menacing tentacles to life, with Sam Raimi favouring an amalgamation of animatronics, CGI and puppetry, and the result is certainly more convincing than Vemon's suit or Electro's blue hue.
The mad scientist's battle with Spidey on that speeding train is still the set piece for the Spider-Man film series to top where sheer thrills are concerned. Homecoming came close with the aerial battle against the Vulture, mind.
Given that he won our sympathy from the start, it seems only fitting that Doc Ock achieves redemption come the end of the movie, reclaiming his sanity and saving the world from the evil that had overcome him.
Whoever inherits this role when the part recast for the Marvel Cinematic Universe will have their tentacles full living up to the lofty standards set by Molina.
