And finally, was the number one Spider-Man movie villain ever in any doubt? Of course, Alfred Molinas Doctor Otto Octavius/Doctor Octopus takes the top spot in our list. Due his stunning starring turn in Sam Raimis Spider-Man 2, Mr Molina earned an awful lot of praise. And so far, hes proven impossible to top. Again, the origin here isnt complicated: Peter meets Otto early on, while researching a paper, and later attends his fusion reactor launch event. This goes horribly wrong, and the charming humble man Otto fuses with his own tech, accidentally kills his own wife, and becomes a supervillain. Molina is equally impressive before and after this event. He makes you like Otto in those early scenes, make his rise (and eventual fall) as a villain all the more tragic. Ultimately, of course, he returns to lucidity and takes his life to save the city. Its highly emotional, and infinitely memorable. He gets some terrific scenes, too: the clock tower fight, and the sensational train sequence it leads into, remains immensely impressive to this day. And the scene where Ottos tentacles murder a room of scientists has never lost its ability to send a shiver down watching spines. Again, Molinas Doc Ock proves what can happen when the right actor in the right part teams up with a good screenwriter and a director at the height of his powers. Itll be very tough for a new Spider-Man movie villain to ever do better. Who is your favourite Spider-Man villain? Let us know in the comments...
