Every Spike Lee Movie Ranked Worst To Best
14. Bamboozled (2000)
Perhaps the single most controversial and provocative film of Lee's entire career, Bamboozled was an infamous box office flop, but has since become one of the director's most beloved cult classics (though not one you're likely to seek out for a re-watch).
A biting and often uncomfortable commentary on Hollywood's history of racism and cultural appropriation, the dark comedy-drama follows a TV writer (Damon Wayans) who makes an over-the-top, deeply offensive minstrel show in hopes of getting fired, only for the show to become a rousing success.
With its incredibly scathing humour and Wayans' phenomenal leading performance, Bamboozled refuses to take a breath and makes Lee's issues with Hollywood remarkably clear. It's hard to watch, confrontational and bleak, but it's also one of his most vital movies.
