Every Star Wars Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
10. Attack Of The Clones
While it's Episode I that lives on in infamy and draws most of the ire, the follow-up Attack of the Clones is actually even worse. It's the film where the flaws with George Lucas' prequel trilogy - both in plan and even more-so execution - shine through the most, with little left to elevate them.
That's not to say everything in Episode II is awful. The fight between Jango Fett and Obi-Wan is legitimately exciting, aided by the rain-soaked atmosphere of Kamino, and indeed Obi-Wan's detective adventure is enjoyable in allowing Ewan McGregor to truly come into his own as the character, quips and all. The Arena, too, is a great bit of cinema and is where Lucas lands the grandiose vibe.
All of that, however, is bogged down by the focus on Anakin and Padme's misguided romance, the former's breakdown, and some absolutely turgid plotting. Lucas' notoriously bad dialogue is at its worst here, as is the wooden acting of Hayden Christensen (and his complete lack of chemistry with Natalie Portman), but most egregious is the overuse of CGI.
All sorts of colours and shapes are thrown at the screen to produce a hodge-podge of wonky effects. That feeds into the wider problems of the movie (and indeed the trilogy), with the action beats underdeveloped and lacking in character, and the narrative and character work as lifeless as the computer-generated creations.
